Combining Prayers In NS

The act of combining prayers, or what is known as jama', is normally done when one is a traveller (a musafir). However, according to some 'ulama, may Allah be well-pleased with them, even in darurah (emergency), one can combine prayers, even if one is not travelling. Dzuhur can be combined with asar, while maghrib can be combined with isha'. If one prays dzuhur and asar together during the time of dzuhur, this act of combination is called jama' taqdim. If, however, the 2 prayers are done during asar, it is called jama' ta'khir. The same terms apply when one combines maghrib and isha' together whether this is done earlier during maghrib (jama' taqdim) or later during isha' (jama' ta'khir). This is what can be called a rukhshah (flexibility) in Islam. For Allah (High and Exalted is He) Himself declares in al-Qur'an, "Allah (High and Exalted is He) wants easiness for you, and does not want hardship for you." Insha-Allah, more of this concept of jama' will be covered in upcoming posts. Insha-Allah.

Success Of Al-Mawaddah Workshop

Alhamdulillah. All Prase be to Allah, The All-High, The Exalted One. Who has made the last workshop at Masjid al-Mawaddah a success. The participants who came were eager to learn and were blessed people indeed. Allow me to thank my friends who helped me, as well as the people of Masjid al-Mawaddah who facilitated me throughout the planning and the execution process. And to my father, mother and the rest of my family for their continuous support and encouragement. And also to my blessed teachers, who are lights in my life and whose guidance and support, as well as their du'a, have always been my support and succour, all with the permission of Allah (High and Exalted is He). May Allah bless and help all of us, and continue to guide us along The Straight Path. And peace and blessings be upon His Noble Meseenger, The Last Prophet, The Leader of Mankind, The Chosen One, Muhammad, as well as onto his pure family and his noble companions. Amin. Lastly, I have decided to disable the comments - in contrast to what I initially said during the workshop itself. My sincere apologies. National Service Workshop - 18th July 09

My group of friends, whom we call ourselves Boyz2Man, will be organising a National Service Preparatory Workshop at the newest mosque of Singapore, Masjid al-Mawaddah (5-7 mins from Buangkok MRT, Northeast Line), 18th July 2009, Saturday, 9 am till 2 pm. Those going to NS soon (within the next 2-3 years) are those especially targeted for. No fees are charged. Places are limited and registration is required. To register, or for any enquiries, please contact Sameer at 96698512 or email at sameer_al_abd@yahoo.com.

A Muslim may wonder at how is he able to guard his obligations while in National Service. With time no longer a luxury, guarding the five daily prayers must be thought as a difficult thing. Fasting is also another issue. How is one able to fast while undergoing training is a burning question. Plus, how is one able to maintain his unique Muslim identity throughout NS, without being influenced by the 'bad' things, is something that has to be tackled with. Islam has the answer to all these issues. Elder brothers who had gone through the thick and thin of NS are ready to share their NS experience and 'ilm gained from our local asatizah.
